June 24, 1971 — April 9, 2026

Alan Koep, age 54, passed away at his home in Milford on April 9, 2026. A gathering will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Oak Hill Outdoor in Milford. At 5:00 PM, there will be an opportunity to share memories of Al, followed by visitation until 7:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Turner Jennes Funeral Home, PO Box 496, Milford, IA 51351.

Alan (Al) Koep was born on June 24, 1971, in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Richard and Carol (Brinkley) Koep. He graduated from Okoboji High School in 1989 and served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma and Germany. He returned to the Lakes Area that he loved and used his “schmoozing skills” working at local bars, food preparation \ sales and various marina activities. Al was diagnosed and treated for cancer. He beat the cancer while showing his grit and resilience as he worked to resolve the treatment side effects. He passed away at his home on April 9, 2026.

Al was special in so many ways. He loved to cook and prepared unbelievable meals. He loved the lakes and the outdoors, especially with his loyal dogs. His humor and antics entertained many and he was a dad to everyone, regardless of how old they were. His daughter said, he gave good hugs.

Left to cherish his memory are people he loved including his children Alexandria and Sophia Koep; Stephanie Zahrt and her family (Zandra, Zarah, and Stryker), siblings Bruce (Kim) Koep, Jean (Ron) Wilms and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Al never met a person who didn’t become his friend, and they will all remember him with a smile. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister’s family, Karen, Cecil and Shane Coombs.
