Obama: ‘Easter weekend is a time to reflect and rejoice’

By Kim Geiger, Tribune Washington Bureau –

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama reflected on his Christian beliefs in his weekly address, wishing all Americans “a weekend filled with joy and reflection, focused on the things that matter most.”

In an address focused entirely on the holidays of Passover and Easter, Obama said “for me, and for countless other Christians, Easter weekend is a time to reflect and rejoice.”

“These holidays have their roots in miracles that took place thousands of years ago,” he said. “They connect us to our past and give us strength as we face the future. And they remind us of the common thread of humanity that connects us all.”

Obama broadened his message to include believers and non-believers alike.

“Christ’s triumph over death holds special meaning for Christians,” he said. “But all of us, no matter how or whether we believe, can identify with elements of his story. The triumph of hope over despair. Of faith over doubt. The notion that there is something out there that is bigger than ourselves.

“These beliefs help unite Americans of all faiths and backgrounds,” he said. “They shape our values and guide our work. They put our lives in perspective.”

Obama said the holidays offer an opportunity for people to “rededicate our time on Earth to selflessness, and to loving our neighbors. We remind ourselves that no matter who we are, or how much we achieve, we each stand humbled before an almighty God.”

On Monday, the first family will welcome more than 35,000 people to the South Lawn of the White house for the 134th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. The year’s theme is “Let’s Go, Let’s Play, Let’s Move.”

Gloria – I oppose Obama as much as anyone.
However, it appears the quote you used regarding page 261 of the “Audacity of Hope” is not accurate. From numerous online sources it in essence says he will stand with immigrant communities when they feel threatened by others following attacks such as 9/11.
There are plenty of items to oppose him on but let’s not stoop to misquotes, etc.

Obama will say or do anything to get re-elected. How’s “Hope and Change” working out for ya so far?

No kidding! now show me one politician that doesn’t say anything to get elected!

I’m still trying to figure out what we got for the 60 billion dollars he gave to Brazil for oil exploration. All I have seen so far is higher gas prices.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. ~ 1 Peter 1:3

So this is how you want to feel/ act on Easter. Speaks volumes on breeding and bad parenting.

Ya, look what it did to Obama !!!

Thanks for solidifying my point.

I didn’t know Easter was a Muslim holiday.

Hell, I didn’t know ‘Osamba’ was a Christian!

(Time for two Petes to pump sunshine)?

Its an election year, so this guy will be anything anyone wants him to be. Need a clown for a party….he’s the man to ask for. Need an ass kisser to any radical country or leader, again, he’s the man.

My time of rejoicing will come when he’s voted out of office this November.

AMEN!

In “Audacity of Hope” he writes: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” The quote comes from page 261 of the paperback edition of “The Audacity of Hope.

And he’ll stand by idiot bloggers too if the majority decides that its ok to treat them like second class citizens! So don’t worry he’s got your back.

Believe it or not!
