I love when politicians come up with and use hot new phrases to push their ideas through. Recently we have (had) Councilperson Scott Tournquist use the phrase, “destination retail.” It sounds good, sounds like its different than just going to the grocery store to buy some milk, eggs and butter. It sounds like something more than just retail.
All retail is a destination. To think that one company is better than another because someone from outside Mason City shops there is ludicrous.
I recently purchased some shoes at Famous Footwear on the west side of Mason City. When I was paying the clerk asked me my zip code. Is Famous Footwear a “destination retail” place also? If Famous Footwear isn’t a “destination retail” shop why would they ask me for my zip code?
