On July 19th at about 12:25 a.m., a Mason City Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation at 10th and North Harrison. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer’s emergency warning equipment and continued eastbound. A the intersection of 10th and North Jackson the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a vehicle parked in a residential driveway on the 1000 block of North Jackson. The vehicle then continued into the front of the house at the same location and came to rest inside. The resident of the house was home but was uninjured.
The driver of the Vehicle, Shelby Veal (14) of Lake Mills and the passenger Nicholas Lindsay (16) of Mason City were uninjured. An investigation into the incident discovered that the vehicle had recently been stolen by Veal and Lindsay from a residential driveway in the 600 block of 3rd Street NE.
Shelby Veal was charged with violating an instruction permit, failing to prove security against liability, eluding, failing to maintain control and 2nd degree theft. Nicholas Linsday was charged with minor consumption of alcohol and 2nd degree theft. Veal and Lindsay were detained by Juvenile Court Services and placed in separate detention centers.
The Mason City Police Department asks that you like your vehicles at all times and refrain from leaving the keys in them, even if they are hidden.
