Christie Vilsack was in Mason City Tuesday evening announcing her candidacy for Congress.
She will be running for the 4th District against out-spoken Republican Steve King, a five-term congressman was has served western Iowa in Congress.
Vilsack was flanked by her husband, former Iowa Governor and current U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and her two sons, Jess and Doug. About 200 people showed up to hear Vilsack speak.
House District 4 is newly drawn on Iowa’s Congressional map and covers the western fourth of Iowa. The state lost a U.S House of Representatives seat due to population shifts in the United States.
Vilsack recently moved to Ames, which is in the new 4th District.
