Jim was born on July 14, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Harry and Marion (Stone) Wright. He spent his early years in Minneapolis before the family moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, where his early years were shaped by a loving family and marked by curiosity, hard work, and a deep sense of responsibility toward those around him.
Jim met the love of his life, Jean Marie Cahalan, while having lunch with friends at the Town House Restaurant in Mason City. He confidently told his friends he was going to marry her one day, and on October 5, 1957, they were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They shared 68 years of marriage and raised six children together: Scot (Pat) Wright, Nancy (Dan) Broderick, Mark (Ann Marie Monahan) Wright, Tracy (Bernie) Schofield, Brad (Brenda Feit) Wright and Amy (Doug) Koch. Jim was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 26 great-grandchildren.
Above all else, our father was a devoted family man. His love and support were constant, and he always prioritized the well-being and happiness of his family. Memories of his laughter, stories, and gentle guidance will remain with us forever.
Professionally, our father exemplified dedication and perseverance. He worked as a car salesman before becoming a certified welder and pipefitter. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and, in 1967, founded Comfort, Inc., a successful HVAC company that reflected his commitment to quality and service.
Our father was deeply involved in his community throughout his life, serving as president of the North Iowa Builders Exchange and the Mason City YMCA, and participating in the Mason City Chamber of Commerce, St. Joseph Catholic Church parish board, the Newman Knights Booster Club and the Mason City School Board.
Everyone who knew him knew of his many hobbies and interests. He loved fishing, biking, golfing, barbecuing, playing cards, flying his airplane and working with computers.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marion Wright, and his brother, Grant Wright. He is survived by his wife, Jean, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his example of faith, perseverance and love.
