CHARLES CITY – An elderly Nora Springs man tooling around Charles City in his Honda Accord failed to navigate a turn and took out a mailbox, and his errant ways cost him.
Charles City police say that on October 28, 2025, at 12:39 PM, their officers were called to investigate a collision with damage. Officers arrived at the 200 block of Park Avenue, and after an investigation, they determined that a gray 2011 Honda Accord, driven by 79-year-old Ervin Boelsen of Nora Springs was the involved driver. Police claim that Boelsen was turning off of 1st Avenue and headed northbound onto Park Avenue when he struck and damaged a mailbox.
As a result, no one was hurt, but the mailbox might never be the same, as it suffered $75.00 worth of damage. The Honda was driven away from the scene without damage, but Boelsen was issued a traffic ticket for failure to maintain control.
