SACRAMENTO, CA – One of the Iowa Hawkeyes’ greatest players ever to don the black and gold, Keegan Murray, is an extremely rich man after signing a 5-year, $140 million extension with the Sacramento Kings.
The team made the announcement this week, anchoring Murray as a cornerstone in their organization for years to come.
NIT reported back in 2022 that Iowa’s Keegan Murray was selected No. 4 overall by Sacramento Kings in 2022 NBA Draft. Murray had a stellar rookie season, setting an NBA rookie record for 3-pointers in a season with 206 that still stands. He has been solid ovr his three NBA seasons, as one of only three players to record 500 three-pointers, 150 blocks and 150 steals over that span.
NBA.com reports, however, that Murray “will miss the first four to six weeks of the season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament of the left thumb after suffering the injury during a preseason game,”
The Kings were just 40-42 last season, and lost in the NBA playoffs play-in game. Another former Iowan, Doug McDermott, plays for the team. Murray’s identical twin, Kris Murray, was also a star for the Hawkeyes and plays for the Portland Trailblazers.
