SACRAMENTO, CA – Former Iowa Hawkeye star Keegan Murray has set the NBA rookie record for 3-pointers in a season.
Keegan Murray, a rookie from Iowa who plays for the Sacramento Kings, sank his 188th 3-pointer of the season Wednesday versus the Portland Trailblazers. Murray sank three treys in the game. The former record-holder was Donovan Mitchell. Murray set the record with the highest percentage (40.7%) ever for a first-year player with 400+ attempts, according to the Kings.
Murray is a starter for the resurgent Kings, now a top team in the Western Conference, set to make a long-awaited playoff appearance this season. Murray, 22 from Cedar Rapids, averages 11.9 points per game. The Kings still have 6 games remaining in the season, so Keegan is likely to build on his record.
Many Hawkeye fans consider Keegan to be one of the greatest to ever wear the black and gold.
