Evalyn Nettleton, 101, of Greene, passed away, Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the 11th Street Guest Home in Charles City. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am., Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar.

Evalyn Nettleton, 101, of Greene, passed away, Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the 11th Street Guest Home in Charles City. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am., Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Evalyn and her family.

Evalyn Louise Nettleton (nee Poppe) was born May 10, 1923, in Butler County, a daughter of Ewald and Mary (Schmidt) Poppe. She attended Greene Community High School and North Iowa Area Community College. On December 31, 1947, Evalyn was united in marriage with Joseph Clair Nettleton in Waterloo. Evalyn taught Country School for 12 years. Later she worked in the Central Supply Department at the Floyd County Hospital.

As a farm wife and mother, Evalyn had Shetland Ponies and miniature horses. Clair and Evalyn participated in more than 500 parades and shows with their hitch and wagon. She was known for her large collection of elephants, figurines, pictures and shirts. Evalyn had a real zeal for life with her grandchildren; she even went sledding with them while in her 80’s.

Evalyn is survived by her sons: Bruce (Marti) Nettleton, Woodbury, MN; Joseph (Lori) Nettleton, Charles City; sister: Diane Hartman, Cedar Falls; grandchildren: Vanessa (Daniel) Kuder; Renee (Mark Gobeli) Nettleton; Marc (Jocelyn) Nettleton; Sofie Nettleton; J. Ryan Nettleton iii; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Viola and brothers Wayne and Dale.
