Gary L. Zeitler, 63, of Britt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital after battling lung and bone cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be conducted by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Gary Lee Zeitler, the son of David and Eva (Gordon) Zeitler, was born September 3, 1961, in Moline, Illinois. He graduated from East Moline High School and served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and worked various jobs in the Moline area. He then moved to Britt and worked for Robert Eden doing draining and tile work. Later, he worked at Smidley Manufacturing in Britt. Gary was employed at the Original Saw Company in Britt for 25 years before retiring. On October 21, 2000, he married Barbara Cravens in Wesley. They made their home in Britt. He enjoyed listening to 70’s music, remodeling old cars, watching the TV shows Deadliest Catch and Alaska Gold Rush and doing carpentry work for his family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Barb Zeitler of Britt; three children, Joanne Zeitler of Britt, Andrew Zeitler of Fort Dodge, and Marie Jones of Pennsylvania; a stepdaughter, Shelby Cravens of Knoxville, IA; and five grandchildren, Levi, Julian, Malakye, Ivry, and Mya.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
