Truck crashes in rural Northern Iowa after steering column breaks

FAYETTE COUNTY, IOWA - A Wisconsin truck driver avoided injury when the steering column in his Ford broke and sent him hurtling through a ditch, colliding with a tree.

FAYETTE COUNTY, IOWA – A Wisconsin truck driver avoided injury when the steering column in his Ford broke and sent him hurtling through a ditch, colliding with a tree.

On December 12, 2024, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an accident along Highway 93 east of M Avenue. Authorities arrives and upon further investigation, a 2016 Ford truck driven by 29-year-old Austin C. Hansen of Belmont, Wisconsin, was traveling east when the steering column broke.
The vehicle entered the south ditch, went through the fence, and struck a tree.

No one was injured.

The vehicle sustained approximately $4,500.00 in damages.
