RICHMOND, Va. – NIACC freshman Olivia Spurling placed 8th in the NJCAA Division I national half marathon Tuesday.
Spurling, who is from Earlham, covered the 13.1 mile course in a time of one hour, 47 minutes, 34 seconds.
Also for the Trojans, Cloey Usher was 97th in a time of 1:53.20 and Bridget Canton was 10th in a time of 1:57.52.
NIACC placed 20th in the team standings with 226 points.
Salt Lake CC was the team champion with 11 points. New Mexico JC was second with 26 points and El Paso CC was third with 36 points.
Salt Lake CC’s Edith Neslen was the individual champion in a time of 1:23.23 and El Paso CC’s Antonia Ronoh was second in a time of 1:21.11.
Meanwhile, Isaac Thompson and Ryan Kelly led the NIACC men Tuesday at the NJCAA Division I national half marathon.
Thompson, a freshman from Charles City, placed 92nd in a time of one hour, 18 minutes, 3 seconds while Kelly, a sophomore from Mason City, was 93rd in the same time of 1:18.03.
Also for the Trojans, Lukas Vance was 154th in 1:28.15 and Kevin Carney was 163rd in 1:31.19.
Iowa Western was the half marathon national champion with 11 points. Salt Lake CC was second with 15 points and Odessa College was third with 36 points.
NIACC was 22nd with 274 points.
