OBIT: Marjorie E. Vavrik

Marjorie E. Vavrik, 94, of Clear Lake and Formerly of Ventura, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Marjorie E. Vavrik, 94, of Clear Lake and Formerly of Ventura, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1001 9th Avenue South, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dave O’Connor as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Duncan.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.

Marjorie E. Vavrik was born December 16, 1929 at the family home west of Crystal Lake, IA to Aloys and Golda (Gordon) Kirschbaum and was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, Woden, IA.

Marjorie graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1947 and following graduation attended Iowa State Teachers College to obtain a teaching certificate. Marjorie taught five years at Crystal #8 country school.

On June 25, 1953, Marjorie was united in marriage to Louis Vavrik at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City. To this union they were blessed with a daughter, Jane, and a son, Marvin.

The couple farmed near Duncan until 1968 and then moved to an acreage north of Ventura. After Louis passing, she moved to a home in Clear Lake. Marjorie worked as a teacher’s aide at Ventura School and later on at Mode-O-Day and Mason City Tent and Awning until retirement.

Marjorie was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Clear Lake, and the Northside Jolly Club of Ventura. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, baking, playing cards, and sewing.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Jane (Wayne) Eckhoff, Alexander, IA, and Marvin, Clear Lake, IA; grandchildren, Rebecca (Steve) Tiffany, Mark (Jennifer) Eckhoff, Brian (Ashley) Eckhoff, Hannah (Mitch) Moretz, Dylan Vavrik; six great grandchildren and a step great grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; brothers, Homer, Raymond (Lucille), Cecil (Margie), Eugene (Geneva, Madonna), and Vincent (Gladys) Kirschbaum; sisters, Mae Battleson and Darlene Kirschbaum.
