BURLINGTON – Savvy Iowa cops used video surveillance footage to locate a juvenile who ignited a structure fire.
On July 16, 2024, the Burlington Police Department responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Osborn street in Burlington. When officers arrived on scene, they observed the southeast corner of the residence engulfed in flames. Upon investigation, officers obtained video surveillance and observed a juvenile walking in the ally behind the residence with a long object in his hand prior to the fire. A few minutes later, the juvenile was observed leaving the back of the residence without the object in his hand. Approximately 2 minutes after the juvenile left the area, smoke was observed coming from the back of the house.
The juvenile was located, taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center where he was charged with second-degree arson.
