Wayne Andrew Weber, 74, of Mason City and formerly of Clear Lake died Sunday, July 14, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center following several years of bad health. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City, IA is in charge of arrangements.
Wayne was born May 12, 1950 the son of Gerald and Catherine (Adams) Weber in Osage, Iowa. He attended Visitation Catholic grade school and later graduated in the class of 1968 from Marian High School in Stacyville, Iowa. Wayne was a popular kid and acted in several high school plays. Following graduation Wayne went on to attend Loras College in Dubuque for 2 years.
On April 12, 1980 Wayne was united in marriage to Cindy Farwell in Clear Lake, Iowa.
Freshly out of school, Wayne went to work for Winnebago, Industries in Forest City, Iowa where he installed wiring under the dash boards of the motor homes. He went on to work for Zilge Appliance in Mason City doing appliance repair and delivery. Wayne changed his job outlook by taking a job selling cars for Sedars Automotive, after a few years Wayne took a job as a petroleum jobber. Eventually Wayne went into insurance and finance and soon opened his own agency. Wayne and his wife Cindy later opened Cindy’s Cleaning which they ran together for several years.
Wayne loved fast cars, sponsoring and working on different stock car racing teams over the years. His drive to drive put him behind the wheel in a demolition derby. Wayne’s love for fishing and boating were what he loved about living in Clear Lake. Wayne and Cindy went on many fishing excursions to Lake of the Woods in Baudette, Minnesota where they enjoyed fishing for walleye. Wayne was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. He often was a lector during Mass and helped serve Thanksgiving to the people of Clear Lake. Wayne’s active church schedule took precedence over other activities. He was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Wayne had a fascination with computers. He enjoyed trying to diagnose and fix them weather for a stranger or a friend and often did it for free. He built computers for people as well as helped with software issues. Cindy always told him she wouldn’t give $5 for a truck load of them. Wayne spent hours listening to his police scanner or programming them for others. He was very supportive of law enforcement and even had friends who were members of the force.
Wayne was a lucky gambler and truly enjoyed going to Las Vegas to play the tables. Not sure if he ever really lost while there. Wayne loved his cats, especially his most recent one that he named Simon. Wayne was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan, never missing a game on tv.
Wayne struggled most of his life with diabetes but took it in stride and was very conscientious of his sugar intake. He never complained about it.
Wayne knew everyone and could call so many people by name, even in recent years Wayne’s memory and knowledge of people was unwavered. He seemed to know everyone in his retirement apartment complex. Wayne was loving caregiver to his mother Catherine during her final illness.
Those thankful for having shared in Wayne’s life include his wife, Cindy; two brothers, Leon (Rhonda) Weber, Brian Weber; three nephews, Mark Weber, Ben Weber, Colby Weber; and a niece, Micky Weber.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Catherine Weber.
