Cindy Brandt age 71 of Floyd Va, passed away at Unity Point Hospice Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She suffered a massive stroke on June 19, 2024 while visiting Iowa and could not recover. Funeral service are pending. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Cynthia Jean Brandt (Cindy) was born July 1, 1953 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was the child of Gene Brandt and Marlys (Ellingson) Brandt, and grew up on the family farm near Alden, Iowa, with her parents and sister Debra. Cindy attended Alden Community School and the Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. She finished college at Drake University in Des Moines Iowa with a degree in Liberal Arts which led to her teaching elementary school in California, Florida, and Virginia. Cindy retired from teaching in 2018 and enjoyed her time with car races and bluegrass music.
Cindy loved Nascar and attended many professional car races. Her move to Virginia made it possible to travel to the numerous race tracks within the area. She knew all the drivers, cars, and teams with her favorite being the Chevy drivers.
She also enjoyed bluegrass music that her great grandmother instilled in her at a early age. Her weekly Saturday event was to drive to Mt. Airy, North Carolina and listen to live music all day with young adults and professional older performers.
Cindy was a Chicago Bears football fan and loved to watch college football and basketball.
Cindy always picked out the perfect greeting cards to send to friends and family for all occasions and holidays. She would always include a hand written note on every card. She learned this dying art from our parents and grandparents and loved doing it. She also was pleased to receive mail in return.
Her true love was always in Iowa, the farm, open fields, friendly people, and John Deere equipment. She collected small JD tractors and memorabilia. The Virginia mountains gave her that feeling of country but never quite the same as Iowa. Iowa was home. It was God who brought her back to Iowa for her final visit and resting place. She is now at peace with the Lord which gives us all great comfort.
Cindy is survived by her sister Debra (Brandt) Shea (Daniel) of Arizona, nephew Chase Fuller, his wife Vicki, their children, Trenton, Dylan, Quinn, Lala, and Ella of California.
She was preceded in death by her father Gene Brandt and mother Marlys (Ellingson) Brandt, and brother Dennis Brandt.
