Former President Barack Obama today said is “wrong” to target people who were children when they illegally entered the country, even as President Trump and the Executive Branch declare the DACA law invalid.

Statement released today by former President Barack Obama:

Former President Barack Obama
Immigration can be a controversial topic. We all want safe, secure borders and a dynamic economy, and people of goodwill can have legitimate disagreements about how to fix our immigration system so that everybody plays by the rules.

But that’s not what the action that the White House took today is about. This is about young people who grew up in America – kids who study in our schools, young adults who are starting careers, patriots who pledge allegiance to our flag. These Dreamers are Americans in their hearts, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper. They were brought to this country by their parents, sometimes even as infants. They may not know a country besides ours. They may not even know a language besides English. They often have no idea they’re undocumented until they apply for a job, or college, or a driver’s license.

Over the years, politicians of both parties have worked together to write legislation that would have told these young people – our young people – that if your parents brought you here as a child, if you’ve been here a certain number of years, and if you’re willing to go to college or serve in our military, then you’ll get a chance to stay and earn your citizenship. And for years while I was President, I asked Congress to send me such a bill.

That bill never came. And because it made no sense to expel talented, driven, patriotic young people from the only country they know solely because of the actions of their parents, my administration acted to lift the shadow of deportation from these young people, so that they could continue to contribute to our communities and our country. We did so based on the well-established legal principle of prosecutorial discretion, deployed by Democratic and Republican presidents alike, because our immigration enforcement agencies have limited resources, and it makes sense to focus those resources on those who come illegally to this country to do us harm. Deportations of criminals went up. Some 800,000 young people stepped forward, met rigorous requirements, and went through background checks. And America grew stronger as a result.

But today, that shadow has been cast over some of our best and brightest young people once again. To target these young people is wrong – because they have done nothing wrong. It is self-defeating – because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel. What if our kid’s science teacher, or our friendly neighbor turns out to be a Dreamer? Where are we supposed to send her? To a country she doesn’t know or remember, with a language she may not even speak?
Let’s be clear: the action taken today isn’t required legally. It’s a political decision, and a moral question. Whatever concerns or complaints Americans may have about immigration in general, we shouldn’t threaten the future of this group of young people who are here through no fault of their own, who pose no threat, who are not taking away anything from the rest of us. They are that pitcher on our kid’s softball team, that first responder who helps out his community after a disaster, that cadet in ROTC who wants nothing more than to wear the uniform of the country that gave him a chance. Kicking them out won’t lower the unemployment rate, or lighten anyone’s taxes, or raise anybody’s wages.

It is precisely because this action is contrary to our spirit, and to common sense, that business leaders, faith leaders, economists, and Americans of all political stripes called on the administration not to do what it did today. And now that the White House has shifted its responsibility for these young people to Congress, it’s up to Members of Congress to protect these young people and our future. I’m heartened by those who’ve suggested that they should. And I join my voice with the majority of Americans who hope they step up and do it with a sense of moral urgency that matches the urgency these young people feel.

Ultimately, this is about basic decency. This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we’d want our own kids to be treated. It’s about who we are as a people – and who we want to be.

What makes us American is not a question of what we look like, or where our names come from, or the way we pray. What makes us American is our fidelity to a set of ideals – that all of us are created equal; that all of us deserve the chance to make of our lives what we will; that all of us share an obligation to stand up, speak out, and secure our most cherished values for the next generation. That’s how America has traveled this far. That’s how, if we keep at it, we will ultimately reach that more perfect union.

Hey Kettle ! Wy do you think obummercare is so costly – the working class wealth producers are paying 12 million Non – wealth producers who are public servants and 12,000.000 (12 million illegals) . Nice work if you can get it.

Black Kettles – NO it was your past post POS Obama’s CLAIMED father with – The Oswald guy down in New Oleans – The kettle calling the pot black ? OH! for liberal shame.

When red, green and blue are numbers how many cats eat bar-b-que sauce? HA HA touchdown. Libtards…. Anonymous, this is what your posts sound like to people who happen to be able to read English.

HA!
Great one Black Kettles, you nailed it.
That “Orange Anonymous” character has some serious issues.
My guess is that he or she ate lead paint chips as a child.

Read my lips, if you like your daca, you can keep your daca.

Earl, did your wife leave you for a hispanic? You are majorly not right in the head compadre!

Your “Headline” is factually wrong. DACA is not a law, it was an executive order by Obama and beyond the authority of any President. Congress makes law, not the President. This only moves this unlawful order aside and pushes congress to do their jobs.

Iowa is one of the states wasting our money by suing to keep DACA. DACA is clearly illegal as it violates our laws. Iowa has become so lawless that state officials sue to continue illegal activity! Read about it here: http://m.kcbd.com/kcbd/db_355945/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=y25BEWZf

Why should this bother him – he was not a natural born American (kenya-indonesia ) Hell the whole demorat party was behind this corrupt falsehood that he was born in Hawaii – PS – his so called father had his picture taken with Lee Harvey Oswald (the patsy) just days before JFK was killed. His records are sealed by the not so justice dept. and we will probably all be gone before they are ever unsealed – no wonder the dimms want to change history.

You’re so deep into conspiracy theory garbage you can’t even keep them straight. It was Ted Cruz’ father that was supposedly photographed with Oswald.

The vast majority of our city/COUNTY /state governments are controlled by demorats with only 1 thing in mind – selling their position to the highest bidder – I See your senator Mendez is up for fraud/theft/corruption charges -about time -1st congressman in 40 years to be charged with corruption – About time – this also includes Rino repub fat cats.

Obama was wrong to create DACA/DREAMERS which amounts to a privileged political class.

Hundreds of thousands of law-abiding people from around the world are waiting patiently for their backlogged visa and green card applications to be reviewed. Imagine their frustration.

Why don’t their dreams come first?

Dreamers should respect the sovereign right of an independent nation to determine who stays and who goes based on its national interest and constitutional obligations to put its citizenry first.

Give a privileged political class an inch and they’ll take, take, take until feckless public servants give away their country.

Obama was wrong and Trump was correct to end DACA!

Well said

Great comment Watchdog, and very true. That is why the liberals will attack you for it. They just can’t stand the truth. Seven (7) times Obama said it was unconstitutional to pass this law without going through congress and then did it anyway. Democrats only want to obey laws when it suits them.

Well said. Now Rep Gutierrez of Illinois is calling for fighting in the streets over DACA. Illegals use violence to get their way. We Americans must be armed at all times for self defense.

Hey Earl, aren’t you going to be late for your KKK meeting?

Not a member of KKK. I used to documented arrests of illegals for various crimes at IowaNews on Storm Front. Network Solutions shut Storm Front down. They have refused to allow the site owner to download and transfer to a new site. So all we are left with is a REAL Nazi site, http://www.nsm88.org. I decided not to start documenting crimes by illegals there. I need to spend more time preparing for the civil war the left has started.

Take your medication and get a good nights sleep. Good Bye Earl

Keep close watch on the illegals around you. Rep Gutierrez of Illinois said “Yes, we will be on the streets fighting.” That means the illegals next to you might attack you because they think you are a Trump supporter. Or look like one. Remember that illegals have been caught driving around shooting at people, they have been caught dealing in stolen weapons, they have been caught with weapons cache including Tec-9 sub-machine guns. I had documented this all at Storm Front before it was taken down. Lock and Load! Open war is upon us.

We have lots of people from Illinois here. Rep Gutierrez of Illinois has called for fighting in the streets. Illegals are already terrorizing and killing our people with vehicles and guns. We can expect his illegals to step up the violence. We Americans must be armed at all times against the invaders. This is a war to free our country of an invading army of illegals. See Gutierrez declaration of war (fighting in the streets) here: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/09/05/gutierrez-unhinged-after-daca-repeal-wh-chief-disgrace-to-uniform-trump-endorsing-white-supremacy/

The last resort of a liberal when they have no other argument. Call the man a racist.

What makes him think that the illegals are the BEST and BRIGHTEST? Our citizens are the BEST and BRIGHTEST and always have been. He was a waste as a president and still is. Send him back to Kenya where he belongs.

DACA is not a law.

If it was a law then it would be legal. The president would have to honor it. Right now it is an illegal executive order that breaks our laws. Trump gave Congress 6 months to make it a law.

Obama stated in speeches on several occasions that the executive order he signed wasn’t constitutional and that he couldn’t do it. May 10, 2011 in elpaso ,Texas; on Univision march 28, 2011; and in Washington july 25, 2011. I find it ironic that he now criticizes trump for having to deal with the mess he created. He is the one who is partly responsible for any hardships these people would suffer. They need to thank him.

Those so called Dreamers get free health care, HUD housing and Free college. What do you get? Enough is enough.

Tic toc tic toc tic toc…..the clock is running on you do nothing republicans. November will be here before you know it and you won’t. Tic toc tic toc. Do what Hilary can’t….accept Trump is our chosen president and begin doing your job and if that just happens to be the same thing our President wants then so be it. Just get on with it. Tic toc

He could have passed anything in his first year when he controlled Congress. He chose to pass health care. Then after he lost congress he had to use an executive order for DACA.
I’m sure his thought process was how can I screw up 2 things instead of just one.
P. S. Oh, and STFU!!

As soon as republicrooks figure out a way to make a bunch of illicit money off this, it will be fine, and legal, and even godlike.

You mean Democrooks! The Republican’s (real one’s) not the RINO’s and Republicrats that you are talking about are honest,

Sorry chump.

Obama WHO? We don’t really care what his opinion is anymore

What a puke. This jerk created this whole mess!!!

As usual Obama is clueless. What Trump has done is to force congress to enact a law to allow DACA to stay in the country legally. Yes, there is a risk it won’t pass congress, but that risk is small and after a law is passed people under this law will no longer have to wonder what will happen with their status when the next president comes along.
This is a first step toward getting congress off their asses and out of their fighting and resistance and work together. Long over due.
This is also a first step toward real immigration law change. Something else that is over due. Either we have laws that we can live with and enforce or we have chaos.
Of course Obama is against this move, it further erodes his meager legacy.
