William “Bill” A. Carberry, 71, of Aredale, died peacefully, Friday, March 15, 2024 at Rockwell Community Nursing Home after battling with an aggressive cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd Street SE, Mason City, IA with a time of fellowship to follow. Officiating will be Rev. Jon Montgomery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Bill was born on March 19, 1952, in Mason City the son of Marion and Margaret (Kay) Carberry. He graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School in 1972. Bill then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology and graduated May 1974 with his AA in Police Science. In college he worked at the Dike Police Department and then later with the Vinton Police Department. While in college, he met his future wife, Julene Wallace. They were united in marriage May 12,1974 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. To this union two children were born. After graduation the couple moved to Manchester, Iowa, where Bill served as a deputy for Delaware County. One year later they moved to Dyersville where he was a police officer, working alongside Julene, who served as the police dispatcher. In 1976, they moved back to where Bill grew up to farm with his dad. Stepping away from farming, Bill worked for Beacon Microcenter in computer sales then switched to IT/repair. He continued in the computer technology field with David Manufacturing and then as a self-employed computer guru, making technology work for a wide-range of people and businesses in the North Iowa area, often with a little sarcasm and laughter included for free.

Bill and Julene were both active in the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international medieval reenactment organization. William was an avid archer and woodcrafter, becoming well-known for his longbows which he lovingly crafted for family and friends. Known as William Fletcher of Carbery, he received many honors for archery and service, more often than not side-by-side with his wife. Bill also made wine and took great pleasure in sharing a glass (or a mug), a story, and a laugh with the many great friends, both old and new, that he made while playing in the land that he loved. Calontir!

Those surviving Bill are his wife Julene, two children Jodilynn and her husband Jeremy Flener, and Shaun Carberry, all of Aredale, and his three grandchildren, Cole, Hannah and Amelia.
