Kevin Carl Landau was born on May 5th, 1960, to Robert and Joan Landau. He was the first born of three children. Kevin grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. His family loved horses and he spent his time “doing horse stuff” like barrel racing and other aspects of the rodeo world. More than anything, Kevin loved hockey. He played for several teams as a child and played endless outdoor games on the ponds and hockey rink at Byrnes Park. He won numerous individual awards, as well as team and state honors. During High School at Waterloo Columbus, he shared victory in 3 state hockey championships and one football state championship.

He graduated from Columbus High School in 1978 and kept in touch with the “78 Sportsman,” as their group annually scheduled fishing and outdoor adventures together across North America.

After high school, Kevin traveled to Montana to ranch for a short time before returning home to continue his hockey career. He played for Rochester Community College for a season, then returned to Waterloo to play for the Blackhawks during the 1979-1980 season.

Kevin met and married Jill Ryan in 1982 while attending Iowa State University. Their son, Cole, was born that same year.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture in 1985 that prepared for all aspects of public, horticulture, landscape design, and turfgrass management.

Kevin began his career as Superintendent at Arkansas City Country Club – Arkansas City, Kansas. His daughter, Carrin, was born in 1987.

Kevin accepted a job as Manager of All Vets Country Club in Clear Lake, Iowa and moved his family there in 1992. He later owned and managed West Hills Golf Course in Nora Springs, Iowa.

Kevin loved fishing and was most happy fishing, especially with his grandkids. He had a love of music and enjoyed singing loudly.

Forever a true “man’s man,” working in Tripoli with his trees. He was most recently full of pride, sharing the news that 2023 marked a 50-year recognition the family land had been enrolled in Iowa Forestry Programs.

Kevin found beauty and entertainment in things other people looked past. He was loud and boisterous. He was fun. He lived his life for his family, and he loved them more than anything. Kevin will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Robert Landau; sister, Ann McIntee; nephew, Sammy McIntee; and mother and father-in-law, Gloria and Darrell Ryan. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jill; his mother, Joan Landau; sister, Sara (Ed) McGarvey; son, Cole (Megan) Landau and their children, Carl and Brooke; daughter, Carrin (Erik) Sadler and their children, Elliot and Benson; brother-in-law, Steve McIntee; and many other family members and friends, who all meant the world to him.
