Daniel “Dan” Osier, 69, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

Daniel “Dan” Osier, 69, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter Church Window Project or Floyd County Cancer Fund.

Daniel Charles Osier, the son of Donald “Dutch” and Geraldine (Betts) Osier, was born on December 19, 1953, in Charles City. As a young boy, he enjoyed fishing on the Shell Rock River and Crabapple Creek with the neighborhood gang. Dan attended St. Mary’s Academy until he was in 8th grade. When the school closed, he attended Greene Community School, graduating with the Class of 1972. Dan was proud to be an athlete for the Greene Rams. He was a Corn Bowl Conference football player and wrestler. In his junior year, he was the heavyweight Conference wrestling champion.

On February 17, 1973, Dan married Jan Schafer at St. Peter Lutheran Church. They were proud parents of their daughter, Stacie, and son, Darin.

In his early 20s Dan was a member of the Greene Jaycees and had fun working on the River Days events, especially the Centennial year. Dan worked at John Deere in Waterloo for a few months and then became employed at Sukup Manufacturing in Sheffield. After a few years he got his dream job of farming for Bob Kepple. He loved learning all aspects of raising pigs, cattle, and grain farming.

Dan was injured in a farm accident on December 7, 1981. Since his accident, Dan had multiple back surgeries and dealt with chronic pain. Even with this pain, he tried his best to attend his grandkid’s events as much as possible. He was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye Fan and Chicago Cubs Fan and was delighted to experience the Cubs winning the World Series.

Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan; daughter, Stacie of Greene; son, Darin and his wife, Jody of Charles City; and his pride and joy, grandkids: Dustin (Jenny Lampe) Osier of Tipton, Kaleb, Layne, Koryn, and Flynn Osier of Charles City. He was blessed to have a great-grandson, Jude Daniel Osier of Tipton. He is also survived by siblings: Donna (Gary) Gerhard of Greene, Marjorie (Gerald) Geitzenaur of Anamosa, David (Linda) Osier of Alpine, California, John (Judy) Osier of Greene, Sharon Krominga of Mason City, Barb (Steve) Schroeder of Noblesville, Indiana, and Deb (Tom) Heidenwirth of Greene; mother-in-law, Caroline Schafer; sisters & brothers in law: Nita (Mark) Daniels, Charles (Sherri) Schafer, Craig (Kathleen) Schafer, Sandi (Tod) Miller, Kevin (Laura) Schafer, and Diane Osier; along with many, many, nieces and nephews. Dan also held a special place in his heart for Jim & Rita Sanner.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Roger Schafer; siblings: Ron Osier, Phyllis (Dean) Groshens, Eugene (Pat) Osier, Lyle Osier, and Jim Osier; nieces, Julie Tucker and Emma Lukes; and nephews, John Gerhard and Kevin Stanbro.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care and compassion with Dan.
