OBIT: David Harold Clayton

David Harold Clayton, 78, of Clear Lake, IA, passed away June 29, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, IA. David worked for the Riceville Texaco Gas Station until he enlisted in the Navy on August 1, 1966. On March 22, 1967, David was called to active duty in Vietnam.

David Harold Clayton, 78, of Clear Lake, IA, passed away June 29, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, IA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, July 6, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

David was born on June 22, 1945, to Harold Clayton and Hedwig (Hintz) Clayton in San Jose, CA.
David was baptized in the Lutheran Church in San Jose, CA. The Clayton family moved to Riceville, IA after Harold was discharged from the Navy. David went to a Country School in Riceville. David graduated from Riceville High School in 1963.

David worked for the Riceville Texaco Gas Station until he enlisted in the Navy on August 1, 1966. On March 22, 1967, David was called to active duty in Vietnam. David was a Vietnam Veteran.

David married Judy Bill and to this marriage two daughters, Tara and Tracie were born. They later divorced.

David married Joyce Griga Naber on May 4, 1996. David gained 5 step-children, Karen, Janice, James, Kirk, and Kenneth Jr.

David took over Harold’s Mechanic/Welding Shop after his father’s death. , until computers in cars came. He also worked for Johnson Trucking out of Minneapolis, MN and in 1997 Joyce team drove with him. David joined his wife in Clear Lake in 1997. After Johnson Trucking closed, David went to work at Woodford Wheeler Lumber Company. David later joined Vandusseldorp Trucking until they closed. David joined Yohn’s Ready Mix until his health issues showed up and had to retire.

David joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 2013 until present. David belonged to the American Legion Post 244 and the VFW in Riceville and Osage. David entered Good Shepherd Healthcare March 1, 2018 until his death.

David is survived by his wife Joyce of 27 years, children, Tracie (Kevin) Christensen, Karen (Brian) Gregory, Janice Martindale, Kirk Naber, Kenneth Naber Jr, and Hazel Hodges; step-sister, several cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren,

Preceding David in death are is parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, daughter Tara Swenson; stepson, James Naber, many aunts and uncles, and son-in-law, Jim Martindale.
