OBIT: HOWARD H. KRAUSE

Howard Henry Krause was born August 2, 1931 at the farm in rural Lone Rock, the son of Walter and Rose (Kressin) Krause. He attended Parochial School at Lotts Creek through the 8th grade where he often rode his horse or bicycle to school. Howard then attended Fenton High School where he graduated from in 1949.

Howard served in the United States Marine Corps from May of 1951 to March of 1956. He returned from his tour in Korea on the Chicago Northwestern Train. He had been feeling homesick; but those feelings wouldn’t last long when fate stepped in. On that same train was a young lady, by the name of Delores Sturtz, coming home from visiting her sister in San Francisco. The two struck up a conversation and the rest is history. On November 18, 1956, Howard and Delores were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. They were blessed with three daughters; Julie, Joni, and Jill.

The couple lived and raised their family on a farm near Lone Rock. Howard not only farmed; but put in many long hours raising dairy cows and feeder cattle which he loved.

Howard enjoyed fishing and went on many fishing trips with others. One of his favorites was traveling to Cut Foot Sioux Lake in Minnesota. He also enjoyed boating and taking people waterskiing. Howard was a member of Lott’s Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was very active and served many different roles.

Nothing was more important to Howard than his family. He loved his wife and daughters a great deal; and was known to take delight in spoiling his girls. As a special treat, he would often take them to the Oaks in Fairmont on Friday nights when they were growing up. In later years Howard could charm and entertain his grandchildren; he loved pulling them behind the boat, taking them waterskiing; and one especially loved when he would flip pancakes under his leg and catch them on a plate.

Howard and Delores retired and moved to Spirit Lake in 1989 where they enjoyed many years together. While living there, they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 30 years.

Howard died Monday, October 18, 2021, exactly 55 years to the day after his dad, at Palo Alto County Health System in Emmetsburg. He was 90.

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Delores of Emmetsburg; three daughters, Julie (Mike Pruett) Miller of Fort Dodge, Joni (Lynn) Underwood of Lone Rock, Jill (Brett) Hosch of Johnston; seven grandchildren, Amy (Andrew) Sterk of Golden Valley, MN, Eric (Sara) Reimers of Humboldt, Sarah (Ben) Blaylock of Polk City, Nicole (Josh) Hendrickson of Fort Dodge, Melissa (Nate) Evans of Fort Dodge, Calee (Brock) Beadle of Lone Rock, Justin Hosch of Johnston; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; son-in-law, Bob Miller; and his five siblings.
