ALTOONA, IOWA – A tragedy on the Raging River ride at Adventurland Park in suburban Des Moines claimed one life and injured three others this weekend.
Adventurland Park, in Altoona, Iowa said that at approximately 7:35 PM on July, 3, 2021, a boat on the Raging River ride overturned with 6 riders on it. Four guests were transported to a local hospital with injuries, 3 critical and one minor.
Altoona Fire and Police and other responders were either on property or responded immediately.
The ride had been inspected on July 2, 2021 and was found to be in sound working order, Adventureland claims, and said the ride will remain closed for a thorough inspection.
Soon thereafter, it was disclosed that one of the passengers on the ride passed away.
Adventureland said, “This investigation is ongoing and the ride remains closed. Adventureland is working closely with both the State and local authorities, and would like to thank them again for their efforts. At this time, we ask for your thoughts and prayers for the Guest and their family, as well as for our team members who were onsite.”
