Senator Amanda Ragan works to expand rural infrastructure, investment and opportunities

Senator Amanda Ragan
MASON CITY – Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City today announced she will support bipartisan efforts to bring new opportunities to Iowa farmers and rural workers.

The Empower Rural Iowa task force presented a plan for progress to Governor Kim Reynolds today. Ragan commends the work state and local Iowa leaders did to develop programs to expand broadband access, create more jobs in rural Iowa, and expand Iowa economic development options like the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit Program.

“As a part of rural Iowa, I understand how Iowa’s farmers, businesses, and workers are Iowa’s year in, year out essential workers,” Ragan said. “The challenges that hold rural Iowans back are really holding all of Iowa back. We must take on those challenges. When we do, we will help all of Iowa move forward.”

Senator Ragan will serve as a member of the Iowa Senate Agriculture Committee for the next two years. She supports various initiatives to help Iowa farmers achieve new levels of production while reducing costs.

“Iowa is making progress,” Ragan said. “One example is expanding access to broadband. This is essential to leveling the playing field for businesses, schools, and entrepreneurs in rural Iowa. State dollars to help rural broadband providers expand have recently been reinforced by more than $140 million in new federal grants. This is good news for the ability of rural Iowans to produce, innovate, and compete in a wide range of industries”

When the Iowa Legislature convenes next month, Senator Ragan looks forward to working with legislators from across the state to expand opportunities for businesses and workers in rural communities.

“Give rural Iowans an opportunity to compete on fair terms and I believe that Iowans and Iowa will come out on top,” said Ragan.
