Charles City man faces sentencing in child molestation case

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man arrested for lascivious acts with a child and indecent contact with a child has entered a guilty plea in the case and awaits sentencing.

The arrest took place on Friday, October 26. At about 4:48 PM that day, officers with the Charles City police department went to the 800 block of Cedar Street. There, they located a wanted man, 40-year-old Shane M. Davis of Charles City. On October 17, 2019, the Charles City police department brought a criminal complaint against Davis in Floyd county court for lascivious acts with a child and indecent contact with a child. The next day, Judge Katherine Evans issued an arrest warrant for Davis on those charges. It is alleged that Davis committed these crimes on July 1, 2019.

Davis was taken to the Floyd county jail and was soon released after posting bond.

On November 25, Davis and his lawyer entered an Alford plea in the case. An Alford plea is a type of guilty plea in which the defendant does not admit guilt but admits there could be enough evidence for a conviction. Davis will face a sentencing hearing on the morning of January 21, 2020, as he remains free at this time.
