Gov. Reynolds signs First Responder Appreciation Day proclamation

DES MOINES – Today, Gov. Reynolds signed a proclamation for First Responder Appreciation Day to honor the heroes that protect and serve Iowans in times of need.

Gov. Reynolds was joined by police, fire, emergency medical services, search, rescue and other first responders and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Steve Bayens.

Below is the proclamation language:

WHEREAS, individuals, both career and volunteer, from police, fire, emergency, medical services, search and rescue, and other organizations in the public safety sector, come together as first responders to aid the public in the event of an emergency; and

WHEREAS,  first responders risk their own safety and personal property in the execution of their duties to protect the public every day; and

WHEREAS,   first responders are the first line of defense for the public against all threats, both domestic and foreign; an

WHEREAS, first responders are a vital part of our communities, standing ready, 24 hours a day, to deal with emergencies and volunteering in our schools and community organizations:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kim Reynolds, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim October 28, 2019, as

First Responder Appreciation Day in Iowa.
