MASON CITY – A convicted felon who was set free from an Iowa prison late last year was caught creeping near a closed Mason City business and cops chased and arrested the man.
The incident took place Sunday morning, March 4 just before 2 AM near a parking lot at 19th Street and South Monroe Avenue, where at least two businesses are located but were closed. A Cerro Gordo deputy located a suspicious subject in a closed business parking lot, and the subject fled on foot. Mason City police joined in the search and the culprit, 34-year-old Travis Alan Kummer, was apprehended.
Kummer was taken to the county jail on charges of interference with official acts and failing to use a crosswalk. He was quickly released from jail, pending a court date.
Kummer was sent to an Iowa prison in July of 2017 for a D felony and released in November; he has spent other time in Iowa prisons, as well. He was arrested at a Mason City hotel after a disturbance back in 2012.
