WORTHINGTON, Minn. – NIACC’s Austin Anderly placed second at 141 pounds at the Worthington Open on Saturday.
Anderly, who is ranked No. 1 at 141 in the Intermat’s NJCAA Division I rankings, dropped a 5-1 decision to Brent Jones, who was competing unattached from the University of Minnesota.
Anderly (7-1) won four matches before falling in the finals. He picked up a pair of major decision wins in his first two matches, downed St. Cloud State’s Ryan Rodorigo 6-2 in the quarterfinals and topped Trent Butcher, who was competing unattached from Southwest Minnesota State, 10-4 in the semifinals.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, Mark Gonzales (4-6) placed sixth at 125 pounds. Gonzales was pinned by Kahlen Morris (unattached from South Dakota State) in 3:58 in the fifth-place match.
In the 149-pound B division, Robert Rodriguez (10-8) placed eighth by going 3-2. He won his first two matches, lost in the quarterfinals and then lost in the consolation semifinals.
NIACC returns to action at home Friday night in a dual meet against Iowa Lakes. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
