MASON CITY – The Mason City School Board will meet Wednesday night and consider forming committee to advocate for the continuation of two taxes on property owners.
According to the board meeting agenda for Tuesday, January 3, the school board will discuss forming a committee to support and advocate for the potential April 3 public vote to renew the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) and the Instructional Support Levy (ISL).
In December, the school board began to consider the continuation of the PPEL and the ISL. The school district said the board will have other meetings to make a final determination on whether these two levies will be pursued or not via an election. Both tax levies were put into effect back in 2013 and are good for 5 years. Taxes on a $100,000 home raised an average of over $42.00 a year as a result of approval of the levies by voters on September 10, 2013.
The Board of Education Committee of the Whole work/study session will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in the Board Room of the Administrative Center, 1515 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, Iowa. No action will be taken at this work session.
