Charles City couple arrested after police officer allegedly assaulted

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City police officer was allegedly assaulted and a man and woman were taken to jail for assault and drug charges.

The incident took place just before 1 AM on December 23, 2017. Officers with the Charles City police department were called to the area of the 400 block of South Iowa Street after a 911 call was made but then hung up. As a result of the call, an officer was allegedly assaulted by a woman. Arrested was 29-year-old Matthew Mullen of Charles City on charges of domestic assault, second-offense possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also arrested was 26-year-old Tia Osterkamp of Charles City on charges of assault against a peace officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were jailed and soon released, pending court dates.

Osterkamp was arrested back in August of 2016 for fighting / disorderly conduct and public intoxication; she was later guilty and fined.
