President Trump puts Iran on notice as protests erupt in terrorist nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump put the rulers of the terrorist nation of Iran on notice this weekend as protests erupted there.

“Big protests in Iran,” President Donald J. Trump tweeted on New Year’s Eve as he noted that the long-downtrodden populace might be getting fed up with their leaders.

“The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism,” the President continued. “Looks like they will not take it any longer. The USA is watching very closely for human rights violations!”

The U.S. State Department said they not missing the action in the Middle Eastern nation.

“We are following reports of multiple peaceful protests by Iranian citizens in cities across the country,” the agency said in a statement. “Iran’s leaders have turned a wealthy country with a rich history and culture into an economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos. As President Trump has said, the longest-suffering victims of Iran’s leaders are Iran’s own people.”

The President reminded that Iran is “the Number One State of Sponsored Terror with numerous violations of Human Rights occurring on an hourly basis.” He claimed that due to the protests, Iran “closed down the Internet so that peaceful demonstrators cannot communicate. Not good!

“Iran is failing at every level despite the terrible deal made with them by the Obama Administration,” President Trump claimed. “The great Iranian people have been repressed for many years. They are hungry for food & for freedom. Along with human rights, the wealth of Iran is being looted.”

The State Department condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters and urged “all nations to publicly support the Iranian people and their demands for basic rights and an end to corruption.”

On June 14, 2017, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson testified to Congress that he supports “those elements inside of Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of government. Those elements are there, certainly as we know.” The Secretary this weekend repeated his “deep support” for the Iranian people.

Iran was designated a state sponsor of terrorism back in 1984.  The State Department said last year that Iran continued its terrorist-related activity in 2016, including support for Hizballah, Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza, and various groups in Syria, Iraq, and throughout the Middle East. Iran used the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps‑Qods Force (IRGC-QF) to implement foreign policy goals, provide cover for intelligence operations, and create instability in the Middle East.
