CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man received probation and suspended prison sentences in connection to vending machine break-ins.

Daniel Leroy Connerley, age 40, was charged in Floyd county with third-degree theft, second-degree theft, possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and ongoing criminal activity. These charges were brought after Charles City police responded to the 1900 block of Clark Street for a report of a theft on the afternoon of August 14. A vending machine at the Tobacco Outlet had been broken into, with an estimated property loss of $1,688.

Another charge of fourth-degree theft was added later in connection to an incident on July 7, 2016.

Connerley was found guilty on all counts by a Floyd county jury on September 15. At sentencing, Connerley was given 25-year, 5-year and 2-year suspended prison sentences. He must also serve 5-years of probation and 55 days in jail. Additionally, he must pay $4,569.75 in fines, court costs, fees and restitution.

Connerley, who has an extensive criminal history, was guilty of fifth-degree theft in 2016 in Cerro Gordo county after an arrest by Mason City police. He was also guilty of littering in Floyd county that year.
