Mason City school board to meet Monday evening

MASON CITY – The Mason City Community School District Board of Education will meet Monday, September 18 at 5:30 PM at the Administrative Center Instructional Support Center.

The district will seat board members who were elected in last week’s election to new terms – Jodi Draper, Jacob Schweitzer and Alan Steckman. The board will select a President and a Vice President.

Among the items on the meeting agenda, a preliminary report of the beginning enrollment numbers for the 2016-2017 school year will be provided.

The board will consider approval of the the 2017-18 District Goals:

District Goal #1
(a) 100% of students in grades K-11 will meet the end-of-the-year (EOY) proficiency expectations on the Iowa Assessment in reading, math and science (Target is 75% for 2017-18).
(b) 100% of students in grades K-11, who are not proficient, will make more than 1 year’s growth on current year Iowa Assessment as compared to previous year Iowa Assessment.

District Goal #2
100% of 12th grade students will graduate (traditional or alternative diploma).

District Goal #3
All members of the Mason City Community School District will demonstrate and participate in focused professional and personal learning that supports student learning and success.

District Goal #4
Provide the resources, including teaching staff, facilities, infrastructure and access to technology, necessary to support high student achievement in a safe and healthy environment.

District Goal #5
All members of the school community will demonstrate high expectations for themselves and others and are committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inspiring learning environment for all.

Per the Board Meeting Agenda, item VI(D) the recommendation is: “To approve the appointment of Jodie Anderson … as Level 1 Investigators for the Mason City Community School District.” Per the reaudit report Jodie received benefit of around $10,000 of improper funds. (See previous NIT article) Will any board members vote against this?
