OELWEIN, IOWA – Law enforcement in the Northern Iowa region are investigating prostitution crimes that have ensnared two women, with more arrests possible.
After a lengthy investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office made two arrests in a prostitution sting. Investigators charged and arrested Mistie Marie Schmidt, age 29 of Oelwein for pimping. Also arrested was Sandra Louise McMurrin, age 28 of Oelwein for several counts of prostitution.
According to police, McMurrin and Schmidt advertised on an Internet site called Back Page for escort services. Through the investigation, it was discovered that the site was a cover up for prostitution. They would meet potential clients in several surrounding cities as well at their residence in Oelwein. Both were arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail and held on a $5,000.00 dollar bond.
Sheriff Marty Fisher states that this is still an ongoing investigation and more charges and individuals could be arrested. Oelwein Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office in this investigation.
