HAWKEYE, IOWA – An Iowa woman was placed in a jail cell for lying to police about the father of her son putting the boy in danger.
On August 4, 2017 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office concluded an investigation about a subject who falsely reported a crime. Crystal Mary Wirkler, age 29 of Sumner had reported that her 4-year-old son was dropped off during a child custody exchange by his father in Hawkeye before she arrived to pick him up, leaving the child unattended. After an investigation, it was learned that Wirkler had made up the story to get the father of the child in trouble. Wirkler was arrested at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and charged with False Reports to Public Safety Entities, a simple misdemeanor.
She was held for an initial appearance in court.
