NIACC and Wartburg College Announce New Partnership

MASON CITY – During a press conference held Wednesday May 16, officials with North Iowa Area Community college (NIACC) and Wartburg College announced a new partnership.

Wartburg College and NIACC have entered into a partnership to offer a co-admissions program. Upon admission to NIACC, students are guaranteed admission into a parallel program at Wartburg College, providing they have completed an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Science degree and meet the criteria for admission outlined in the joint admissions agreement.

A student enrolled at NIACC who would like to pursue a bachelor’s degree can actually be enrolled at NIACC and Wartburg College at the same time.

“This means that NIACC students who complete their AA, AS or AAS degree and transfer to Wartburg are guaranteed they can get their bachelor’s degree in two years by following the prescribed advising recommendations,” said Dr. Debra Derr, NIACC President. “This is an outstanding opportunity for our students.”

Students admitted to NIACC who choose to also be admitted at Wartburg will have access to resources on both campuses. They will have a student ID at both schools and can attend events for students at both schools.

“We will have a pathway between the two campuses so students feel comfortable,” Dr. Darrel Colson, Wartburg president said during the press conference. “We want to provide a seamless transition from the community college environment to the Wartburg environment.”

NIACC has co-admissions programs with all three state universities. This is the first time the College has entered into a co-admissions program with a private college or university. “We are proud to strengthen our relationship with Wartburg College. Wartburg is recognized as an institution of high academic caliber.”

“We are also excited about this new partnership,” Colson said. “This is a win-win for both colleges and the students we serve.”
