Area cross country runners Dalbeck and Hansen sign with NIACC

MASON CITY – Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Logan Dalbeck and West Fork’s Jacob Hansen ran against each other several times during their prep cross country and track careers.

Now, the two former rivals will be teammates next season as they both signed national letter of intents to run cross country at NIACC next season.

“We’d always talk to each other,” Dalbeck said. “We’re pretty cool buds.

“That was another reason why I chose NIACC.”

Dalbeck said other reasons why he picked NIACC as his collegiate choice were being close to home, head coach Curtis Vais and the cost of school.

“I had a great connection with the coach,” Dalbeck said. “I’m excited to get going.”

Hansen said he had a few other options coming out of high school.

“But NIACC was the best fit for me right now,” Hansen said. “I’m going to be here for a year because of the number of credits that I have.

“Coach Vais is a great coach and NIACC is a lot cheaper than some other schools.”

Dalbeck placed seventh at the Class 2A state cross country meet last fall.

Hansen was third at the Class 1A state meet as a junior.
