On Wednesday, February 22, at about 4:32 PM, police officers investigated a call of suspicious items in a backpack near the Charley Western trail behind Charles Street. It was found to be meth lab related.
The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement was called in to assist. They took possession of the items for disposal.
Police say a person who apparently found the backpack “did the right thing” by calling authorities. Police further advised to “not open jars, bottles, or touch items if you find anything suspicious lying around.”
This a terrible thing. A child or animal on the trail could have gotten into that poison and been seriously injured.
