MASON CITY – A Mason City man was caught drunk driving for the second time within a year.

A Cerro Gordo county deputy Stopped vehicle for an equipment violation early Monday morning, January 23, 2017, at 1:22 AM at the intersection of Lark Avenue and 170th Street outside Rockwell. After an investigation, the driver, 22-year-old Colin James Zander of Mason City, was arrested for second-offense operating while under the influence, driving under suspension, no SR-22 insurance, and open container.

Zander was jailed and soon released. He had been caught drunk driving in Clear Lake in May of 2016 and was sentenced to 2 days in jail, had his license revoked, and was ordered to pay $1,897.50 in fines and court fees. Records show he has failed to make a payment thus far.

Zander is also scheduled to serve 6 days in jail after the second violation of his probation in connection to a child enticement case (pled down to contempt of court). Zander is listed on the state’s sex offender list for a crime he committed in Franklin county when he was 19-years-old. His victim was a male teen between the ages of 14 and 17. Records show that he was charged with sexual abuse in the third-degree back in 2013 but in a plea deal, pled guilty to enticing a minor under the age of 16 for sexual purposes. He was given a deferred judgement with 5 years of probation and ordered to pay $6,556.58 in fines and court costs. Records show he has paid that balance in full.
