Teen and 12-year-old busted burglarizing convenience store in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – Two boys just 15 and 12 years of age were busted by police burglarizing a Fort Dodge convenience store this week and sent to the Eldora boys home.

On Wednesday August 17th, 2016 at approximately 2:00 AM, officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department responded to Sparky’s convenience store at 207 2nd Street NW for a report of a burglary in progress. An alert resident in the area witnessed the crime in progress and was able to provide quick and accurate information, enabling responding officers to successfully locate two juvenile subjects inside the business. Two male juveniles, one 15 years of age and the other 12 years of age, were taken into custody without incident.

During the subsequent investigation, officers learned that the two males were reported as runaways from Rabiner Treatment Center that night.

The juveniles were arrested and charged with the following offenses:
Burglary 3rd degree – Class D Felony
Criminal Mischief 2nd – Class D Felony

While processing the juveniles, one of them became combative with the arresting officer; spitting in the officer’s face. He was charged additionally with Assault on a Peace Officer with bodily fluids – Class D Felony.

With the assistance of Juvenile Court Services personal, the juveniles were transported to a juvenile detention facility in Eldora.
