ROCKWELL — A Mason City woman was injured Wednesday evening after authorities say she fell asleep behind the wheel, left a rural Cerro Gordo County road and crashed into a tree.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the single-vehicle crash at approximately 6:07 PM on September 10 at 8873 Lark Avenue in rural Rockwell.
Deputies identified the driver as Rebecca Dettmer, 77, of Mason City.
Investigators said Dettmer was driving north on Lark Avenue when she allegedly fell asleep.
Her vehicle drifted onto the west shoulder before crossing back across the roadway, going over the east shoulder and entering the east ditch, where it struck a tree.
Dettmer suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital by private vehicle.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
Rockwell Fire, Mason City Ambulance and Lake Towing assisted at the scene.
