MASON CITY – A Mason City man who committed a sex act on a child is heading to prison.

Back in February, investigators with the Mason City Police Department arrested 30-year-old Brent James Champney, who was listed as a married man, of Mason City for the offense of Sexual Assault in the Third Degree; a class C felony.

Champney is alleged to have committed a sex act on a juvenile female without her consent in October of 2015.

This week, Champney was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. He must remain on the sex offender list for life and complete a sex offender program while incarcerated. In addition, he must pay $1,763.94 in fines, court fees and restitution.

Champney was found guilty of felony drug offenses in Winnebago county back in 2007 after his house was searched by Forest City police.
