TIPTON — A collision involving a passenger car and a semi-trailer claimed one life Sunday morning on an Iowa highway.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:07 a.m. on August 3, 2026, near 1927 Highway 38 in Tipton, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Investigators said a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia was backing across the highway into a private driveway when the front of a 2016 Dodge Dart collided with the left side of the Freightliner’s trailer.

One person suffered fatal injuries. The individual was wearing a seat belt and was transported by AirCare to University of Iowa Health Care.

Authorities had not released the victim’s name, age or hometown as of Wednesday. The names of both drivers also remained withheld.

The deadly collision follows another fatal Iowa crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck earlier this year. In that accident, a woman was killed and another person was injured when a car and semi collided at a rural intersection.

The Highway 38 crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Tipton Police Department, Tipton Fire and EMS, and AirCare assisted at the scene. Both vehicles were removed by Brothers.

The crash also comes less than a week after another collision on a remote Iowa highway claimed one life and injured three travelers.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reported 171 traffic deaths across the state during 2026 as of August 5. The total remains preliminary and may change as investigations are completed and additional deaths are determined to be crash-related.
