Iowa State signs Louisiana post player Cameron Lard

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, IOWA – Iowa State head men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm has announced the signing of Louisiana prep Cameron Lard.

Lard, a 6-9, 220-pound forward from New Orleans, Louisiana, becomes the fifth player to sign with the Cyclones out of 2016 class.

“We are really excited to get Cameron into the program,” Prohm said. “We felt that we needed to address size and athleticism down low with the loss of Jameel (McKay) and not having a lot of depth inside this season. We think the addition of Cameron does that and he’s a freshman that can come in this summer and develop and will hopefully be ready to help us next season.”

Lard, who committed to Iowa State after visiting in November, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds at Natchitoches Central High School during the 2014-15 season before transferring to Landry-Walker High School. Lard helped Natchitoches to the state title game as a junior after winning Class 5A his sophomore season. He was named to The Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State Second Team as a junior.

In the 2013-14 state championship game, Lard was named the Most Outstanding Player after scoring 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six blocks.

He did not play at Landry-Walker while sitting out the season because of transfer rules in Louisiana. After being ruled ineligible at Landry-Walker, Lard attended Pro Vision Academy in Houston.

At Pro Vision Academy, Lard played in seven games and averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. He scored 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds and six blocks against API, a team that featured a number of Division I signees and prospects.

Lard, who played AAU for New Orleans Elite, is a four-star prospect by 247sports.com and ESPN and a three-star according to Scout.com and Rivals.com.
