Ex-trooper who got special treatment during arrest is sentenced

WILLIAMSBURG, IOWA – A now-former Iowa State Patrol trooper who resigned after he was arrested and received special treatment while being booked into an Iowa jail has been sentenced.

According to a report from the Associated Press, 28-year-old Patrick Steinbach was an Iowa State Patrol trooper based in Cedar Rapids. Steinbach was arrested by the Williamsburg Police Department back in December of 2015 after he allegedly pounded an a female neighbor’s door. He was charged with first offense operating while intoxicated, court records show.

Steinbach, who played football for Iowa State, allegedly received special treatment, the AP reports. While in the Iowa county jail, officers there did not put him in a jail jumpsuit nor take his mug shot.

Steinbach resigned from the Iowa State Patrol and entered a not guilty plea.

On March 10, Steinbach pleaded guilty to first offense operating while intoxicated. He was ordered to pay $1,797.50 in fines and court costs. He also got a choice of 2 days in jail or a weekend substance abuse program. Court record shows Steinbach must complete a substance evaluation and drinking driver’s school. It does not appear that his driver’s license was revoked or suspended.

He may have won his dot hearing and now will suspend his driver license for the OWI. He has to be suspended it just has not happened yet.

Why wouldn’t he have his license suspended. Everyone else does. Special treatment for a ex-cop???
