Mason City woman arrested after collision with house; driver still on the loose

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman was arrested after the car she was riding in crashed into a house Sunday evening.

Mason City police continue searching for a male suspect who was initially at the scene of a one-car accident Sunday that took place at about 5 PM at the intersection of 4th Street NE and Carolina Avenue. Witnesses and police confirm that a vehicle driven by an un-named male with a female passenger was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Carolina Avenue towards the sledding hill in east park.

“We have no further information to release in regards to the driver, the incident is still under investigation,” Police Chief Michael Lashbrook said. The male driver initially spoke with police but then fled on foot, police at the scene told NIT. He was said to be wearing a blue or gray sweatshirt. He ran west. NiT is told he may have been picked up in a car and left the area.

Police confirmed today that the women who was in the car, 23-year-old Brittany Nicole Roggeman of Mason City, was arrested on charges of Public Intoxication and Open Container.

NIT reported in May of this year that Roggeman was stopped by a Bremer county deputy on May 9 and arrested on a charge of first offense operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor. Roggeman was also charged with driving while license suspended, operation without registration, and no insurance. In October she pled guilty to offense operating while intoxicated. Court records show she will be sentenced Tuesday, November 17.
