Man injured in auto accident near Mason City

ambulanceMASON CITY – Tuesday afternoon, a man was injured in an auto accident when cars traveling behind him failed slow down as he turned off of Highway 65 into his driveway.

According to the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office, on Tuesday, November 10 at about 12:08 PM, emergency responders were called to the area of Highway 65 and 330th Street, north of Mason City. David Harris, age 84 of Mason City, was traveling southbound on Highway 65 is his 1978 Cadillac attempting to turn into his driveway when two vehicles behind him failed to slow down. One vehicle made it safely around Harris but a red 1994 Dodge Spirit driven by Johnny Baugh, age 51 of Mason City, struck the rear of Harris’ Caddy, pushing it into the west ditch. Baugh’s vehicle then went into the path of a northbound 2014 Freightliner Semi driven by Lawrence Bathe, age 58 of Mason City.

Baugh was transported to Mercy Hospital for evaluation of injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

Cerro Gordo deputies were assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT, Manly Fire and Mason City fire medics.
