Two injured in crash east of Forest City

iowa-state-patrol-logo-doorFOREST CITY – Two North Iowans were taken to hospitals after a crash Tuesday afternoon outside Forest City.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, two vehicles entered an uncontrolled intersection and collided at 220th Street and 360th Street in Winnebago county, east of Forest City at about 3:52 PM. A 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by 30-year-old Michael Piper of Lake Mills was traveling northbound on 220th Street as an eastbound 2002 Buick Park Avenue driven by 52-year-old Michelle Kingland approached. Piper’s pickup stuck Kingland’s automobile in the passenger side. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Piper was taken to Mayo Hospital in Albert Lea while Kingland was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City with undisclosed injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

The corn is not all out of the fields yet, you really need to be careful at all gravel intersections, even the controlled ones. (Yes, this one is gravel.) Since Piper was approaching from the right of Kingland, he should have had right of way. The thing is though, when driving gravel roads, you always have to make sure before driving through these blind intersections and I am familiar with this one as well.
