From Texas Senator Ted Cruz –
The attacks on Americans’ religious liberties continue. The decision last week by a federal court to tear down the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial was wrong, driven by the Ninth’s Circuit’s profound misunderstanding of the First Amendment.
The First Amendment exists to protect our religious liberty–to ensure that all Americans are able to seek out worship God with all our hearts, free from government coercion; it does not mandate scouring the public square to forcibly remove all acknowledgements of the Almighty.
We should not be tearing down veterans memorials to satisfy the demands of extremists, and I hope that the Supreme Court reverses this ill-considered decision.
